Redirecting Opportunityand Ownership Toward Self-Reliance
The Roots Work is a U.S. public charity that funds programs building lasting economic self-reliance in underserved communities around the world.
Our mission
To redirect opportunity and resources to underserved communities around the world, such as women, girls, and refugees, by funding programs that build infrastructure for lasting economic empowerment and self-reliance.
We fund the foundations that make independence possible, such as land, housing, training, and income-generating work, rather than short-term aid.
Who we fund
Our first partner is Root Haven Initiative in Uganda, which supports refugee women through safe housing, training in agriculture and animal husbandry, and income-generating work.
The Roots Work is a multi-partner funder. As the organization grows, our board will add other partners in other places.
Grants are approved by our board and made under written agreements with each partner. Donors are welcome to suggest where a gift should go, but suggestions are non-binding: the board keeps full discretion and control over how contributions are used.
